DermaRoller
Increasingly the goal of Aesthetic Medicine is to produce a younger and healthier appearance without surgery or procedures that need significant recovery periods. The Dermaroller is a significant step towards this goal.
The Dermaroller works by producing controlled micro-surgical needle punctures of the skin surface. This results in thousands of microscopic needle columns in the dermis of the skin. These microscopic columns close over rapidly but stimulate the skin to regenerate and repair itself naturally and safely.
The natural regeneration and repair that Dermaroller creates takes time as new collagen is formed, new skin cells are generated and the blood supply is enhanced. It can take up to 6 weeks for visible signs of regeneration and repair to be seen and this process will continue over the following months providing a gradual and long lasting enhancement. To achieve the maximum cosmetic result it is normally recommended to have a series of two or three Dermaroller procedures with approximately 6 weeks between them.
As well as the face, the Dermaroller can be used on the décolletage area of the neck and the backs of hands.
A local anaesthetic cream is applied to the skin before using the Dermaroller. This ensures that you experience no pain during your treatment. Your treatment itself will usually take around 30mins with an additional 30mins beforehand for the anaesthetic cream to take effect.
After the procedure you will look as though you have mild to moderate sunburn and as the skin naturally heals the redness will quickly resolve. Although it is usual to recover the same-day with only a little residual redness the following day, occasionally the skin may remain red for three to four days after Dermaroller treatment. Many people are able to return to their normal activities the same or next day.
You will be supplied with a moisturiser and a sunscreen to use after your procedure.
