Cosmetic Medicine (also called Aesthetic Medicine) is a medical discipline, undertaken by qualified medical practitioners, that comprises a range of minimally invasive and non-surgical procedures. These are designed to enhance appearance and to reduce or reverse the signs of facial ageing and are usually performed either without the need for any anaesthesia or just using local anaesthesia. The current trend in cosmetic facial treatments is very much towards minimally-invasive therapies. When skilfully applied, these should result in significant rejuvenation whilst incurring minimal downtime and allowing immediate return to normal activity.
I have over 20 years experience in the field of Cosmetic Medicine and as a Consultant Anaesthetist I continue to work closely with some of London's leading Cosmetic and Plastic surgeons. As both a Cosmetic Doctor and a Consultant Anaesthetist I am able to combine advanced injection skills with expertise in non-surgical facial rejuvenation and a thorough knowledge of cosmetic procedures. In 2008 I wrote a chapter for a new plastic surgery textbook called Facial Rejuvenation Surgery.
I qualified as a doctor from the London Hospital Medical College in 1977 and obtained the Fellowship of the Royal College of Anaesthetists in 1981. During the next five years I gained specialist experience working at University College Hospital, the Hospital for Sick Children, Great Ormond St., the Brompton Hospital, the National Heart Hospital and the National Hospital, Queen Square. Having been awarded my specialist accreditation in 1985 I took up my first post in 1986 as a Consultant with a special interest in anaesthesia for plastic surgery. For the following ten years I worked as a Consultant in a London Teaching Hospital and a District Hospital.
Since 1997 I have worked wholly in private practice and have a special interest and experience in cosmetic medicine and anaesthesia for cosmetic surgery. I am included in the specialist register established by the GMC in 1995. I have undergone approved training courses in the use of botulinum, dermal filler materials, Dermaroller, skin peels and advanced skin rejuvenation techniques.
